People are the heart of AET and we take great care in ensuring we recruit, train and retain the best shore and seagoing teams in the industry.
With our shareholder MISC, we share a merchant marine training academy (ALAM) and use this as the foundation for the majority of our manpower requirements for our vessels. More than 570 AET cadets are currently training with us ashore and at sea. In addition, a long-standing programme with the US Merchant Marine Academy at Kings Point allows our cadets to enter their training programme and also for US cadets to undergo some training with us.
As an equal opportunities employer, we are delighted to have a growing number of female cadets undergoing their training with us. Many are now serving in our fleet and we are very proud to have appointed our first female chief engineer in 2009.
To ensure a consistent and high quality supply of seafarers we operate our own manning agencies in India, a joint venture in the Philippines and we also have representative offices in Bangladesh, Brazil, China and the Ukraine. All new staff are given thorough induction and assessment programmes as well as additional support during their first few months at sea with us.
Ashore, our professional teams deliver shipmanagement, commercial, operational, financial, legal, HR, business planning, management and other services. We are confident that we employ the right people with the right skills to deliver a consistent and global service regardless of office location or business specialisation.
