President & CEO Message

May and June have been busy and rewarding months for AET.

I recently returned from several weeks in Europe, where I spent time with customers, partners, colleagues and industry stakeholders. My travel included attending Posidonia shipping week and the Clean Energy Marine Hubs (CEM-HUBS) engagement with senior global governments officials in Brussels. At both events, the conversations were wide-ranging, covering everything from energy security and decarbonisation to geopolitics and the future of shipping.

Yet a common theme emerged throughout.

The challenges facing our industry are becoming increasingly complex and were already beyond one organisation’s ability to solve alone. Planning and decision making timelines are becoming increasingly compressed as the industry responds to markets triggers. At the fundamentals of Shipping are long-life assets and decision-making that cast a long shadow. That’s why AET remains committed to achieving net zero emissions by 2050 and continuing to actively future-proof our current and future fleet. Just this year, we have 57 decarbonisation retrofit projects underway to improve both our fuel efficiency and emissions performance.

Further progress depends on partnerships, collaboration and a willingness to look beyond the short-term. Many Customers appreciate our proactiveness in the latest lower-emission designs and I am delighted that they would like to work more closely with us. It was fantastic to hear a desire to work together. I was also encouraged that policymakers in the CEMS-HUBS event also saw the opportunity for energy security planning to create a catalyst for lower-carbon fuel hubs that support industrial sectors including shipping.

Perhaps the most encouraging was the feedback about AET itself. Customers value us not just for our operational performance and technical capabilities, but for the way we work with people. They see a company focused on partnerships, long-term relationships and doing the right thing, even when circumstances are challenging. In an industry often shaped by cycles and uncertainty, that is a reputation we do not take for granted.

That feedback also made this year's Day of the Seafarer especially meaningful.

As we marked the Day of the Seafarer on 25 June 2026, I found myself reflecting on the people who make our industry possible. This year’s theme, "Carrying world trade. Carrying the risks", is a powerful reminder that while shipping underpins global energy security and trade, it is seafarers who carry much of the responsibility, uncertainty and risk that comes with it.

At AET, this resonates deeply. Over recent months, we have been reminded that behind every voyage, are people and families who place their trust in us. Through periods of heightened geopolitical tension and uncertainty, our seafarers have continued to demonstrate professionalism, resilience, and calm leadership under pressure. I would like to thank every member of our seafaring community, and their families, for their commitment, trust and sacrifice.

In my recent conversation on NorthStandard's Future Thinking podcast, I spoke about why crew wellbeing is key to safer operations and stronger performance - a belief that continues to guide everything we do. Whether through safety, wellbeing, learning and development, or the investments we are making to improve life onboard, our commitment remains unchanged: our people will always be at the heart of AET.

Many of the themes highlighted in our recently launched AET Annual Review 2025/26 continue to shape our focus today. While the industry continues to face uncertainty across geopolitics, regulation and the energy transition, our direction remains clear. We remain committed to investing in our people, playing to our strengths, evolving our portfolio, diversifying our business and leading through innovation to better support our customers and create long-term value.

You will see many examples of that progress throughout this edition of AET Highlights. From the milestone 5,000th Gullfaks cargo carried aboard Eagle Balder and recognition for Safety and Learning excellence, to our ongoing decarbonisation efforts and outreach to future maritime talent, each achievement reflects the commitment and collaboration of our people and partners around the world.

I hope you enjoy reading these highlights.

Best Regards,

Nick Potter
