How are decisions made when the future remains uncertain?

At Splash Singapore 2026, Nick Potter, AET President & CEO, joined industry leaders on The Big Issues panel. Moderated by Sam Chambers, Editor of Splash, the discussion explored the trends and challenges shaping shipping in the years ahead.

Sharing AET's perspective, Nick spoke about the need to balance long-term ambition with short-term agility. While geopolitical, economic and energy market dynamics continue to evolve, organisations cannot afford to postpone long-term decisions or become consumed by immediate challenges alone. For AET, the North Star remains clear: achieving net zero by or before 2050, with the choices made today shaping outcomes for decades to come.

Nick also highlighted that resilience and agility must go hand in hand. A resilient business is built on strong financial foundations, a balanced and adaptable portfolio, disciplined cost management and enduring customer partnerships. At the same time, AET continues to translate its decarbonisation ambitions into action through fleet retrofits, energy-efficiency technologies and technology pilots that help prepare the business for a lower-carbon future.

As our industry navigates an increasingly complex operating environment, success will depend on responding to disruptions by building the resilience, capabilities and partnerships needed to thrive through it.

Thank you Splash for bringing together industry leaders for a timely and thought-provoking discussion.
