At the recent 8th Mare Forum Singapore, AET’s Global Director of Strategy & Sustainability and Enterprise Risk Management, Smriti Sharma, joined industry leaders for an open and candid discussion on the maritime energy transition. Discussions centered on:
•    Energy production outlook: Current trends and forecasts
•    Alternative fuels: Myths vs reality on scale, supply, and infrastructure
•    Retrofits and repair yards: Is the industry ready for the shift?
•    Accelerating transformation: The role of industry-wide initiatives like green corridors etc.
•    Immediate actions:  What can be done now to scale zero-carbon shipping while reducing emissions?
•    Innovations and realities: New technologies and successful decarbonisation practises
•    Navigating regulations: How can shipping stay ahead of evolving regulations?
•    Green agenda evolution: Assessing the progress, challenges, and incentives

The verdict?
Progress is happening, but it’s uneven. Sustaining momentum requires pragmatic solutions, stronger industry alignment, and long-term investment in scalable low-carbon alternatives, along with the infrastructure and market ecosystem needed to support them.

AET isn’t just talking about the transition, we are making it happen by investing in alternative fuel technologies, expanding our LNG dual-fuel fleet, and pioneering the world’s first ammonia dual-fuel Aframax tankers. Decarbonisation is a collective challenge, and no company can do this alone. This is why we are working closely with regulators, charterers, and technology partners, to scale impact and turn our ambition into action. Learn more about our sustainability strategy here.
