Despite rising electricity access, more than 1.18 billion people still live in energy poverty, according to a 2024 United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) report. With a little teamwork, we are doing our part to brighten lives and create opportunities.
Recently, colleagues from our offices in Singapore, Kuala Lumpur, Labuan, Houston, Galveston, London, and Rio assembled 200 solar lights as part of SolarBuddy Live’s Hour of Power. These lights will be delivered to children in communities without reliable electricity, bringing them clean, sustainable lighting, reducing their reliance on harmful energy sources, and extending their activity hours after dark.
Anna Gryce, Team Administrator, Business Development & Technology said, “The SolarBuddy project is more than just assembling lights – it’s about giving hope and opportunity to children facing energy poverty. Every light built is a step toward a brighter future, and I’m proud to make a tangible difference in people’s lives.”
“Writing personal letters to accompany the lights we assembled was very meaningful,” said Brandon Tan, Senior Executive, Performance Reporting. “Knowing that our actions and words will light up their nights and their spirits made this experience truly special.”
“Collaborating with teams locally and globally while giving back to communities is an incredibly fulfilling experience! This initiative will resonate with us for a long time, as it has made a real difference,” Kelsey Lindner, Executive, CSR, Scholarship & Events Management said.
As we celebrate 30 years of moving energy around the world and delivering progress, we remain steadfast in our commitment to powering change in the communities where we live and work in. For more information on our community investments here.
