Our Mooring Masters recently took part in a high-intensity Storage Vessel Solution (SVS) simulator training at The Seamen’s Church Institute (SCI) from 28 to 31 July 2025. Conducted in collaboration with Helix Well Containment Group (HWCG), SMIT Salvage, and Riben Marine, the training focused on one of the most demanding emergency scenarios offshore: responding to deepwater subsea blowouts.

An SVS operation requires precise coordination between a dynamically positioned Mobile Offshore Drilling Unit (MODU), an Aframax Storage Vessel held in place by three tugs, and a service vessel connected in tandem for cargo transfer — all in challenging offshore environments where the margin for error is razor thin.

During the exercise, our Mooring Masters tackled complex, real-world scenarios — from pivot manoeuvers and heading changes to unmooring in worsening weather — all requiring precision, coordination, and calm decision-making under pressure. They demonstrated strong seamanship, technical expertise, situation awareness and teamwork, essential to a safe and effective emergency response at sea.

Thank you HWCG, SCI, SMIT Salvage, and Riben Marine for the collaboration and commitment to safety and excellence.
