In June and July 2025, colleagues across AET’s global offices came together to assemble StudentBuddy solar devices – portable, long-lasting solar lights featuring USB charging capabilities that serves as a lifeline for communities where power is scarce and unreliable.

This follows our first effort in 2024, where AET teams assembled 200 JuniorBuddy solar lights – smaller, child-friendly devices designed for basic illumination.

Those lights were sent to Africa and Cambodia, providing clean, sustainable lighting, and replacing harmful energy sources such as kerosene. In places where darkness once meant danger, lost income, or missed learning opportunities – families now have a safer way to study, work and move around after dark.

Assembling the StudentBuddy was a bit challenging but doing this together with my colleagues visiting from Singapore and Houston, whom I usually only meet online, made it such a meaningful and fun team activity!” shared Norfarina Binti Abdul Rahman, Accountant based in Kuala Lumpur.

It’s exciting to know that last year’s assembled lights are making a real impact in communities that need them. I’m looking forward to seeing where this year’s lights will go,” said Christine Loh, Senior Legal Counsel based in London.

More than a CSR initiative, this has become a shared experience — one that connects us not only to each other, but to the communities we hope to support. With every light assembled, we’re reminded that even small acts, done together, can spark real change.
