AET Highlights November 2022

CEO’s Message

As another year is coming to a close soon, I would like to thank all of our valued customers, partners and stakeholders for your ongoing support throughout the year and we look forward to continue working and collaborating with you at AET and across the MISC Group.

We need a strong collaborative sustainability-focused industry approach and also take bolder steps with more innovative solutions to address the climate change issues ahead of 2050. Over the past months, we have been sharing our position and recent decarbonisation initiatives at various industry forums including at APPEC 2022 in late September and at the recent INTERTANKO 2022 Annual Tanker Event in Singapore which we also supported as a sponsor.

Furthermore, I am proud that Eagle Valence, our and one of the world’s first LNG dual-fuel VLCC, has recently been named the ‘Tanker of the Year’ at the Tanker Shipping and Trade Awards 2022. The vessel has also just been certified as a Green Ship as part of the Maritime and Port Authority of Singapore’s (MPA) Green Ship Programme which recognises ship owners for their efforts in reducing the environmental impact of their fleet. My sincere thanks to my colleagues and our partners for making these achievements possible.

In addition to environment, the social pillar of our sustainability strategy is most important to us. One key aspect is our drive to continuously progressing towards a generative HSSE culture with our recent Wellness month initiative focusing on our people’s well-being, safety and health!

AET’s Eagle Valence Wins Tanker of the Year Award

We are delighted to announce that our first LNG dual-fuel VLCC Eagle Valence won the Tanker of the Year Award 2022! The award was presented at the Tanker Shipping & Trade Awards Ceremony in Athens, Greece on 9 November 2022.

Together with her sister, Eagle Vallery, Eagle Valence represent a game changer in conventional energy shipping. The award recognises tankers engaged in bulk liquid transport that sets new benchmarks in one, more or all of the following areas: design, environmental, operational, safety and technical performance.

Congratulations to all staff across the MISC Group at sea and ashore, as well as our partners for your continued support in making this achievement possible!

Collaborating and leveraging technologies

Our Global Director VLCC/PCS John Baptist participated in the APPEC 2022 Shipping Session sharing his insights during the panel on “How is dry bulk and tanker shipping preparing for the looming decarbonization challenge?” with energy leaders, policy makers, financiers and other global players.

During the panel, John highlighted that doing nothing was and is not an option for AET and though there are multiple pathways to decarbonisation, he encouraged all industry players to collaborate more and take bolder steps to continue exploring longer-term innovative solutions to meeting IMO’s 2030 agenda.

He highlighted that the industry should leverage more on technologies to tackle decarbonisation challenges and shared on AET’s investment in Daphne Technology for methane abatement. Furthermore, AET will continue to push boundaries and collaborate with like-minded partners including as announced on zero-emission vessels powered by green ammonia as part of our commitment to net-zero GHG emissions by 2050.

AET attended Rio Oil & Gas conference 2022

AET was at the recent Rio Oil & Gas (O&G), which brought together key industry leaders and decision makers in Latin America. Besides content rich discussions, this hybrid conference at Píer Maua in the heart of Rio de Janeiro provided a great opportunity to network with industry peers and stakeholders.

As a bronze sponsor, our Rio staff attended in person to gain insights on the latest technologies and innovations plus energy transition’s challenges and opportunities. Paola Bessa, Operations Assistant, Mid-Size Tankers Crude Shipping said: “Rio O&G is always an incredible experience. It’s an amazing place to learn about new businesses and technologies and is a perfect avenue for networking.”

Augusto Vasquez, Senior Vessel Operator, Dynamic Positioning Shuttle Tankers added: “As a vessel operator, this was a great opportunity for me to gain insights on the challenges and opportunities within our industry. It also allowed me to meet important stakeholders which in turn strengthens our connections with them.”

Promoting health and well-being

We are continuously progressing towards a generative HSSE culture that is embedded in the social pillar of our sustainability strategy. AET’s recent Wellness Month is one of our important annual initiatives that supports the physical and mental well-being of our global workforce including the adoption of a healthy and active lifestyle.

Staff across our global offices participated in this year’s 30-day wellness challenge and shared the extra mile they went with their physical activities, healthy habits and nutritious meals — cheering each other on to prioritise their overall health and wellbeing daily.

Complimentary health screenings and sharing sessions by industry professionals on topics across nutrition, ergonomics and mindfulness rounded up the activities.

We continue to promote the importance of holistic well-being as health and safety are among AET’s top priorities.
